I arrive back in Frankfurt at 3pm and fly out at 10am the following day. Suggestions on what to do/see and where to stay?
When? Budget? Interests? More information is helpful so that we can give you the best suggestions. Are you arriving by plane or train?
Tons of things to do and see, and a couple 100 hotels to choose from, from ridiculously expensive to small private B&B'S.
I arrive first part of July and have a moderate budget. Prefer a small B&B type of place. Love historical things to see, never been to Frankfurt.
Same question. But also need a train from Berlin to Frankfurt after flying in from Tel Aviv. We hope to land after 4pm and then take train to Frankfurt to catch plane. Would like to keep the trip simple as possible. Date will be July 8th. Can we stay at airport, I hear they have lounges?
Checking for July 8th a double room at the Holiday Inn Express Frankfurt Airport is €42 per room and night. Hotels near the Central Train Station in downtown Frankfurt are around the same price - but come with a convenient 20 minutes direct train ride to and from the airport. Hotels on-site the airport campus start from €80 per room and night.
The 8th of July is a play-day (semi finale) so you really want to stay downtown!
The first week of July, there is a great fest down next to the Alte Oper, from 25 June to 4 July. On the 6th of July, the European Ironman Championship is taking place, so that might affect hotel prices a tiny bit.
For a central location, that are also easy to get to from the main station, these are my recommendations:
Hotel Mirimar, Spener Haus, Hamburger Hof, and Ibis on the Friedensbruche. These are not B&B type places but they should all have A/C and sometimes in July it can be quite miserable here. If you do want a B&B place, then Hotel Beethoven, Dirazi Guesthause, or Hotel Goelz would be good. They are located in the residential neighborhood of Westend, but still quite close to the main station.
Trains from the airport to the main station take 11 min. and there is a train every 15 min. If you go to the Hauptwache (the 5th stop from the airport) the train will take a couple of more minutes.
Greeceus: It only takes about 5 hours to get from Berlin Tegel airport to Frankfurt. As long as you get in by midnight, I would stay in a hotel. If you're thinking of just staying in the airport lounge; see http://www.sleepinginairports.net/.
These are 3 seniors traveling together, according to their other post, so getting a budget hotel room in Frankfurt is wiser than trying to sleep in the airport. Don't fall for the trap of the budget airport hotels, as none of them are at the airport. If being cheap isn't a problem, then the Hilton Garden Inn, which actually is at the airport, will be your best bet.
I stayed at the Hotel Miramar as suggested by Jo and it was absolutely delightful. Thank you!
