Optimal train ticket(s) for 6 days Munich+ day trips?

Hi! Can you recommend best option for me and friend to travel 6 days in and around Munich next month? We intend to use train from/to Munich airport to Old City hotel base…and do weekday day trips to/from Dachau, Nuremburg, and Saltzburg. I am ok paying more to depart each day prior to 9am for our road trips in order to maximize time at each day trip destination. I am getting confused with zones and options and would appreciate your guidance on what is best to reserve and when in order to minimize my cost!

You need to do the math on whether it would be cheaper paying point-to-point (tickets get pricier the closer you get to the departure date), getting the Bavaria Day Pass for each day you travel (only after 9am and only regional trains) or getting a German Rail Pass (best for longer distance trips and if you will be travelling together every day, you qualify for the Twin Pass) ... maybe a combination of both the day pass for 2-3 days (for the closer trips) and the rail pass for 3 flexi days (for the Nuremburg and Salzburg trips) ... the answer is in the math.

Try doing your Munich and Nuremberg day trips on Saturday and Sunday with the Bayern Ticket. The Bayern Ticket (after-9-rule) can be used before 9 on weekends (and holidays.)

Dachau and other destinations close to Munich will be an MVV ticket.

Do not buy any of these in advance. Just buy at the station on the day of travel. They do not sell out, and you get no discount for pre-purchase - and they are non-refundable, so why bother?
