Anyone who happens to be in Munich this Saturday, July 4, and is interested in opera should not miss the broadcast of the new production of Wagner’s Die Walküre as part of the “Opera for Everyone” project. The production is directed by Tobias Kratzer, with General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski conducting. The performance will be broadcast live from the National Theater to Max-Joseph-Platz (in front of the theater).
The Bavarian State Opera is one of the world’s leading opera houses, and tickets for new productions are usually hard to come by. This offers a free opportunity to get a taste of what it’s like. I’m not familiar with this production yet, but I’ve read that it challenges traditional opera lovers quite a bit. ;) Well, that’s no big deal, because if you don’t like it, you can always leave (admission is free). The screening begins at 4:30 p.m., but doors open at 3:00 p.m., so anyone arriving just in time for the screening will likely have to settle for the “cheap” seats.
