Hi all, I’m almost done (finally) with my trip itinerary for this summer. We will be leaving Salzburg to fly out of Munich to go to Iceland and then home. It’s my husband and I and our two boys (13 & 11). We will check out of our place at Wolfgangsee on July 18th, and then we fly out at 7:pm on the 19th from Munich. My question is does anyone have any ideas of good stop offs en route, or even slightly detoured? I don’t want to add too much travel time as we already are spending a lot of time moving around on the trip. We will be dropping off our car on the 18th, and relying on train travel to Munich. I don’t really have a desire to do Munich ( been there, done that). We love towns, city exploring, castles, outdoor activities. Thanks for your input!

Berchtesgaden would be my choice. Beautiful scenery. Visit the Eagle's Nest or take a boat cruise on Königssee.
Another choice for me would be to go all the way to Freising (20 min by bus from the airport). There is a nice Biergarten at Weihenstephan Monastery.
Or you could stop on the way to Freising at Prien and go to Herrenchiemsee, one of Lugwig's palaces.

Regensburg is 90 minutes by direct train to the Munich Airport. Entire town core UNESCO designated.

Freising is pretty low key and easy. Or maybe a place like Andechs.

Berchtesgaden would be my first choice.
Chiemsee would be a good choice also, with a visit to Herrenchiemsee Palace.
Closer to the airport the old town and spa in Erding is a very nice place to visit.
