Oktoberfest Outfits

I will be going to Oktoberfest this September and was hoping to be able to rent a dirndl dress while I'm there. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You don't have rent one, you can pick a cheap (under 100 euro) at a department store like Kaufhof. Or take a stroll down the high end shopping street and check out the 1000 euro models. Very nice.

Look for a store that sells "Tracht". As the other poster noted, though, I don't think you can rent.

Even C&A sell affordable Trachten-Outfits during the Oktoberfest season. They actually sell them already now.

If you want to purchase now before you go, don't forget to check ebay.

I think Rick should offer these , and lederhosen too, in his online store. ;-)

You might try some 2nd hand stores in Bavaria too, though C&A will have the lowest prices.

I just gotta ask --
Do you want to pack that thing going either direction? Maybe things are different now, but most of the people I saw in costume were working the fest. The attendees were mostly in jeans or something impervious to having beer spilled on them.

I always wish I had bought one, so I say, "go for it!"

When we went to Octoberfest with our friends, the guys and girls all bought "faux" german tee shirts. We were well-received.

I saw some here at Amazon but you can look around, because there are plenty.....

Hey, it's a low cost alternative - more money for beer!!!!!

"The attendees were mostly in jeans or something impervious to having beer spilled on them." I disagree. Plenty of people dress up in Tracht during Oktoberfest. A German friend on mine from southern Bavaria who has aslo lived in the US states that young Bayerische Mädchen" pick their Dirndl like a US girl picking her prom dress.

Thanks everyone for the responses!! I ended up finding a dirndl on eBay and purchased it. It was pretty cheap so couldn't resist.

Hopefully it works out :)

Prost!

Check www.eBay.de (German eBay) and search for Tracht. You will probably have to ask if they will send to the USA and some offers may not be available for the US. A lot of good used Tracht as some is hardly worn. You probably will have to search for a size conversion chart too.
