Oktoberfest hotel

I will be attending the Oktoberfest this year and will be staying at the Uhland Hotel near the fest grounds. I reserved the room with my credit card but that only holds the room until March at which time they require a bank transfer of the full cost of hotel stay. This they say is done to eliminate over booking. They do have a structured refund policy for cancellation, but I have never done this before to reserve a room. Has anyone? Is this ligit?

Quite a lot of chain hotels in Europe will offer cheaper rates if you pay the full amount well in advance. In the Uhland case it's because since they are so close to the Oktoberfest grounds and so well-known that they have huge demand and they want to make sure that people booking are serious. If you really object to this, try the Pension Westfalia in the same area which is more no-frills but also good.

This is legit. A lot of hotels recently changed their policies due to a lot of last minute Oktoberfest cancellations last year. Attendance was down due to recent terror attacks and a lot of hotels lost some much needed and expected revenue.
