Oktoberfest 2025

Hello! I'm coordinating a group trip to Europe from Seattle at the end of September / beginning of October. There will be a total of 11 adults and two children (boys 6 and 8), but I'm only planning travel for four (3 adults and the 8-year old boy). We're starting in Munich on 9/27 (likely travel day) and plan to attend Oktoberfest on 9/30. I'd be curious to hear this groups suggestions on great things to do on 9/28 and 9/29 in Munich. From what research I've been able to do, I understand there's a parade on Sunday for which you can buy tickets. I'm interested to hear if it's worth going to the parade. Also, what are some not to miss sights to see in Munich? Of course, the big question is if anyone has hotel recommendations near the Oktoberfest beer tents. I understand it could be expensive, but we're only staying until 10/1 so it may be worth it to us. We plan to be in Scotland on 10/4 then travel back to Seattle on 10/7 or 10/8. Otherwise, we're pretty open on the stops before and after so would appreciate knowing if there are places you've been in Germany that would be worth stopping on the way to Scotland. Any flight recommendations are welcome too. I'm currently considering flying from Seattle to London, London to Munich and London to Seattle with transportation from Munich to London and any places in between via train.

I lived in Augsburg for four years and went to the big fest three times.
The parade that I saw was the one at the beginning of the fest, but you aren't going at the beginning of the fest which is at least a week earlier. if there is a parade, it should be great, but I remember that it was crowded and I had to get there early and stand for a couple of hours.

I suggest going to more than one tent. I loved Spatenbrau beer and they had a tent. Go just before lunch when it is not as crowded. Enjoy a lunch with bratwurst or roasted chicken.

I know children are allowed at the fest, as long as accompanied by an adult.

Remember, the beer had more alcohol than in the USA and you get a liter. Don't even think of driving after only one.

I think you have the incorrect dates for the parades. They are the week before you arrive.

Sounds like a multi-generational trip? First, 9/30 is family day this year and you could spend a full day at Oktoberfest with the boys. The family-oriented rides and attractions are as much of Oktoberfest as are the beer tents. Second, spend some time watching the surfers in the Englischer Garden. The Gardens are also a great place for a morning walk after a little too much festbier. Lastly, make sure you are at the Marienplatz at either 11:00 am or Noon to watch the Rathaus-Glockenspiel.

With 11 adults there is probalbley a very wide range of what everyone will want to see and do. I prefer the Nymphenburg Palance over the Residence. Frauenkirche is beautiful and the Viktualienmarkt is great to visit, especially if you want to stroll and eat lunch or an afternoon snack. My favorite museum is the Neue Pinakothek due to its Impressionist collection.
