Sad, but no surprise. Most mass events in Europe have been cancelled including outdoor events. People drinking and social distancing don’t mix!
Guessing the Christmas Markets will be next, but I’m still hopeful!
Might be a step in the right direction anyway. Covid-19 is hardly the only serious health consequence of O'fest - the heavy drinking (7 million liters of beer) that is encouraged at every O'fest results in 600-800 cases of alcohol poisoning annually and requires an enormous (and costly) police/security presence to keep out thugs and drugs (like alcohol isn't a drug) and to thwart terrorism and to generally keep the peace among the overly inebriated. It's one thing to enjoy a beer or two at a festival, another thing when excessive drinking IS the festival.
Glad I went during the GAS tour in Fall 2019--and I believe that was during the closing week/weekend! But IMHO...fun experience, but no need to do it again. Basically just beer tents and halls in the middle of a big carnival. :)
