OK - Put your hand up!!! Who suggested Bad Wimpfen???

You know it is you! What a discovery! I loved it. It is everything that Rothenburg odT wishes it was, and probably was in days past.

Hills, cobblestones, cobblestones on steep hills, roses everywhere, a fortress at the top, loads and loads of half timbered ancient houses (Fachwerk), helpful TI, easy and free parking and it ate hundreds of photos.

And there's river views (the Neckar), interesting walls, (most of the walls survive).... I could go on.

It is right off the autobahn, near the junction of the A6 and A81 in the northeast corner of Baden-Wurttemberg near the Bavarian border, there is a great spa (related to the one at Erding) just down the road, and the countryside is Beautiful.

Whoever you are who recommended a visit to Bad Wimpfen - take a bow, and thanks.

Not so loud, Nigel. Last time I visited, there wasn't a single trinket shop. Let's keep it that way.

Glad you enjoyed it, though.

Nigel,

Just last week we were pondering best route from Heidelberg to Chiemsee on Day 3 of Fall vacation while jet-lagged and driving short distances en route to the Salzkammergut. You solved the problem: Back roads to Bad Wimpfen for site-seeing and lunch. (Restaurant tips??)

Thanks.

Also, the overnight accommodation prices look very budget friendly. Looks like a great place.

Well I'll give Tom the credit in my case.

When I was sorting out the stops for our trip a couple of years ago he suggested Bad Wimpfen - and it was a definite gem. And his advice to take a leisurely drive along the Neckar from Heidelberg to Bad Wimpfen was excellent as well. Thanks again Tom.

As for hotel - we stayed at the Hotel Neckarblick. It was excellent and I highly recommend it.
