Oberstdorf day trips

As part of our May 2019 Bavaria trip, we'll be staying in Oberstdorf for 11 nights (very affordable flat accommodations via an aquaintance). Looking for day-trip and overnight stay recommendations from there. Will have already been to Munuch, Salzburg and Dachau. Do plan to go to the King's Castles region. Will have a car, but want some train travel as well.

I love the area around Oberstdorf. Of the 150 or so days I have spent in Germany since 2000, around 35 of those days have been spent in the Illar Valley. Füssen and the Kings Castles are not far away. There is a daily bus that runs from Oberstdorf to Füssen, to Füssen in the morning and back in the evening, so a car is not necessary for that trip.

Kleinwalsertal (little valley of the Walsers) is a part of Austria that is isolated from Austria by the mountains and only accessible from Germany. From Oberstdorf, you can take a bus or drive up into the valley from which there are a plethora of hiking trails and ski lifts, or quaint little towns in which to have lunch.

Via Immenstadt im Allgäu, you can drive or go by train down to Oberstaufen or the island city of Lindau, or even on to various places (Bregenz, Friedrichshafen, Konstanz, Mainau, parts of Switzerland) on the lake (Bodensee or Konstanz).

BTW, in all of the days I have spent in that area, a car was never necessary.
