Oberammergau - Neuschwanstein - Munich

We will be traveling with a tour group to the Passion Play in Oberammergau on June 2, 2022. We would like to make our own arrangements for someone to pick us up in Oberammergau on June 3 to visit Neuschwanstein Castle and then take us to the Hilton at the Munich Airport by the end of the day. Any advice about who we could contact to provide that service for us?

Hi, welcome to the forum. You will likely pull out some strong feelings on Neuschwanstein here. I personally thought it was pretty cool. Here are a few alternatives for you:

  1. Daytrip is a company that specializes in moving people from one city to another (door-to-door service) while incorporating side trips along the way. I have used them twice and have been pleased with them. A recent trip (August 2021) was Frankfurt airport to a small town in eastern Germany with stops at two Franconian towns along the way for a little sight-seeing to break up the trip. The driver had excellent English. The company was great to work with. The one thing I would double check with them is what help they can give you with coordinating tickets if you want to go inside the castle. I'm not sure if they do that. Click on the link for requesting a custom trip, and they will get back to you with a price and will be able to answer any questions you have. www.mydaytrip.com

  2. I have used Pure Bavaria Tours out of Munich for a private tour of Garmisch-Partenkirchen from Munich. They were also great to work with, and we had a tremendous guide who discussed everything from his experience of the fall of the Berlin Wall to German literature. A great day! I would expect that they would easily be able to help with tickets. They have great TripAdvisor reviews. https://www.pure-bavaria-tours.de/

  3. Finally, I just stumbled upon a guy named Jake who runs a private tour company named "All things Garmisch" but apparently lives in Ohlstadt, which is just east of Oberammergau. He has great reviews on TripAdvisor and Tours By Locals. He may be able to organize what you want, too. Definitely go through his private website; Tours By Locals takes a 20-25% "finder's fee" from the guide, which usually gets passed on to you. https://www.allthingsgarmisch.com

Edit: Corrected link for #1

Your hotel (if using one) likely has connections to tour operators.
