I'm travelling to Oberammagau from Munich by train in June and staying for 2 nights. On the 2nd day, I'm picking up my rental car from Garmisch. Does anyone know how much is the one way bus ride to Garmisch?
If it was more than 5 or 6 EUR, I 'd be surprised.
Edit: I'm surprised. According to viamichelin, it is 20 km, and the Oberbayern Bus charges more or less by the km, so it should be 6.40 EUR or 6.90 EUR. You can see the schedule at www.bahn.com by putting in the From and To.
A RVO ticket for a 21 to 25 km distance is €5,90. The price displayed by the DB web site is for the train via Murnau.
Thanks for the prompt replies.
An RVO TagesTicket, good for unlimited bus travel on the RVO for a day, is 10 euro single.
Are you doing any other travel that day? A Bayern-Ticket is only 25 euro for one person and is valid for trains and most buses in Bavaria. A Werdenfels-Ticket, for 20 euro, will cover the trains show on this map and bus connections shown on this table.
.
Just pay the driver when you board the bus and tell him where you are getting off. As you can see, it is not going to break the bank.
Thanks Lee for the suggestions. However I'll be picking up my rental car so I won't need a day ticket.
After my stay in Oberammagau area, I plan to drive to Salzburg via Innsbruck (after a morning visit to Partnach Gorge and a stopover in Innsbruck). Is the drive easy or windy? Any idea what's a realistic driving time? I compared the driving time on Google Map & Viamichellin and there's almost an hour difference in the total travel time. I would like a scenic route but hopefully not arriving Salzburg too late in the evening.
Windy is the descent over the Zirlerberg pass to Innsbruck - quite a test for a truck's break. The rest is easy, either over the motorway back through Bavaria or, more scenic, via Jenbach, Gerlospass (toll), Zell am See and Bischofshofen. Drinving times: Garmisch - Innsbruck 1:15, Innsbruck - Salzburg via Inntaldreieck (Bavaria) 2:00 to 2:30, depending on traffic. The route via Zell am See takes much longer. You need an Austrian autobahn sticker for both routes (don't forget that, fines are steep). Buy it at the filling station in Scharnitz at the Bavarian - Austrian border.
Just realized that the price difference for car rental between airport and at Garmisch isn't that huge a difference, considering that I can save on the train tickets!
