OBB Nightjet Berlin to Paris on April 22 - Still can't book? How to call?

I have been stalking the OBB Nightjet site since December to book a sleeper car for April 22nd Berlin to Paris. I emailed OBB two weeks ago with no reply. I am now getting nervous because if this train is not happening, I need to find an alternative route and I hate the airport schlep.

Two questions?

  1. Does Anyone have insight into why this is still not bookable? The return trips are bookable (so 4/23 Paris to Berlin).

  2. What is the best way to contact OBB via phone? You can't WA them so I have been researching online how to call and it all seems super shady.

Thanks RS hive mind.

After posting this did a search and saw in another post OBB says "mid February" which my mind is now and ends on February 20th. Tic Toc.

That said, if anyone has any other insight let me know. I am a family of four and the Couchettes & Sleepers book out fast.

A section of the route in the Frankfurt area will be closed in April due to construction work. ÖBB is apparently still working on an alternative timetable. As they also need new time slots in France, it is not up to them alone when the new timetable will be ready. Unfortunately, there is no other option but to try again every day.

The ÖBB customer telephone number is +43 5 1717.

Thank you. In your experience, do you think it is possible they will need to cancel the service? Or do they usually find an alternative routing?

It is certainly no problem to bypass the closed section (Fulda-Hanau; via Gemünden and Aschaffenburg), but this will extend the travel time by 120 minutes, as DB has announced for its own trains. The question then is whether and when the French SNCF will provide a time slot for the leg from Strasbourg or Forbach; unfortunately I can't answer that. ÖBB will certainly not cancel the train without compelling necessity, because they need it on the 23rd for the Paris-Berlin service, otherwise that one will also have to be canceled. In any case, the train will not reach Paris until around midday, which means that the biggest advantage of the night train, i.e. gaining an extra day will be lost to a certain extent.

This is very helpful information and I am just calling it at this point as the afternoon arrival isn't great. My alternative plan is to take a late afternoon train to Brussels, stay the night and then take an early morning TGV train to Euro Disney. I am sad not to do the OBB Nightjet as we had the BEST experience Vienna to MIlan 5 years ago, but sometimes it doesn't work out. And let's hope for another trip. Hoping to do the Caledonian Sleeper in July.

Is there any reason to fly? I figure it is 2.5 hours to the airport with travel and security, 1.5 hour flight, then an hour or more to Euro Disney. Also, I hate the stress of flying.

I find this all rather odd. The Berlin - Paris NJ takes the same route as the Berlin - Basel NJ. And that one appears to be running normally, and is bookable.

What you could do is take the NJ from Berlin to either Karlsruhe, Offenburg or Freiburg, and take a TGV to Paris form there.

Another alternativ would be the European Sleeper to Amsterdam, (and TGV from there) but that would require you to leave on Thursday.

The European Sleeper also serves Brussels- it is still currently on the every other night schedule so is the wrong night for you.

But I think it gets overtaken by a Eurostar train between Amsterdam and Brussels, so Amsterdam may be the better place to alight.

We are still talking two months time, which is a long time in the future. When it comes to planning engineering work this takes time to organise, just as in the UK.

Rail schedules are simply not the same as airline schedules- the whole planning set up is just very different. As are the timescales which Europeans book surface transport to. Ultimately Nightjet are dependent on the different rail networks in each country organising their own engineering schedules at their own pace- then co-ordinating those results.

Once again thank you everyone. I love the NJ to Basel option. And there is still good availability.

And while I loved the idea of showing my kids the Mannequin Pis and being in Brussels for a hot second (I have been many times) I really wanted three full days in Berlin as it is everyone's first time. We are on a 10-day school break trying to cram 10kg of fun into a 5 kg bag.

I think that's understandable. On the nights when Fulda-Hanau is closed, NJ 408 (Berlin-Zürich) and NJ 40424 (Berlin-Paris) will bee delayed by up to two hours in any case, regardless of whether they are diverted north via Giessen or south via Gemünden to Frankfurt. But the SBB will then let the NJ 408 end in Basel around 9am and send the passengers to Zurich on another train, and so the timetable in Switzerland will not be disrupted. But NJ 40424 to Paris will definitely mess up the French timetables, because kicking passengers off the train at the border in the middle of the night is not a solution here. So at the moment everything seems to depend on whether the SNCF can provide a time slot approx. two hours later than normal or not. And that could still take a while.

I booked Berlin to Basel to Paris -Chessy. We arrive closer to 1 PM . I can cancel ticket until April 7, so if the NJ Berlin to Paris happens and makes more sense I can jump on that. Basel to Chessy is actually an easy connection in Strausburg.

Thanks again everyone! I am planning a summer UK/Scotland trip so you will be hearing from me again soon!
