Nurnberg to Nordhausen - where to stay that night?

On one leg of our trip- we are traveling from Nurnberg to Nordhausen to visit the camp/museum outside of town. Where would be the best place to stay -close by -that evening ? Looking for a nice village, restaurants within walking distance of hotel....

I don't know this town [Nordhausen], but it looks like there are several hotels near the train station which would also be convenient for bus connections to Mittelbau-Dora the next day. For most restaurant options, you'd walk across the river toward the center of town, maybe 15 minutes.

I am assuming you mean staying in Nuremburg? If so, check out Hotel Adina. It's in the Altstadt about a 10-15 minute walk from the Hbf or you can take the Ubahn and then its a short walk from the uBahn stop. Lots of Rick Steves choices for eating nearby and a great jumping off point for his self guided tours (if you have the time) It's new, has a fully equipped kitchen and even washing machine and dryer in the room (!). Great to clean some clothes if you are on an extended trip. Would stay here every time.

The camp is only just outside town so moving on to a village won't work

for hotels put your dates in https://www.hrs.com and make sure you have selected the correct Nordhausen (the one in Thuringia). It's not an expensive area and there are a few choices, make sure they are close to centre. This is a booking only website, you pay the hotel when you are there and in most cases in Germany they allow free cancellation until the arrival afternoon in case your plans go wrong. When the selections come up click SHOW MAP at the top left to get them pinned on a map which you can zoom and move to see actual location.

Not been there for many years but the Ratskeller is still open (built into the town hall) and is an interesting dining room. Menu page of their website has disappeared for the moment but there are some photos http://www.ratskeller-ndh.de/

the local railway that stops close to the camp mentioned in the travel notes linked above is this one http://www.hsb-wr.de/en/mehr-erfahren/das-unternehmen/about-us/ if you have time a ride to Wernigerode is well worth it, as is a few hours (maybe overnight stay) in that town.
