We will be in Nuremburg for two nights in December to see the Christmas Market. We will be staying in a hotel near the train station. I would like some restaurant recommendations for a group of 6-8 people to sit and enjoy a nice atmosphere with good German food. We will probably do one meal per day at the Market and one meal to sit and relax in a restaurant. Restaurants located between the Market and the train station would be ideal.
My favorit place is Weinhaus Steichele, Knorrstrasse 2, a five min. walk from the sw edge of the market. Local cuisine, but in a more modern way. Good selection of wines. On evenings reservation necessary. Another place I like is the Indian restaurant Sangam in the Königsstrasse near the station. An acceptable beer hall is Bruderherz in the Luitpoldstrasse, also near the station. Avoid the two beer halls on the Königsstrasse, you would be disappointed.
Not sure which hotel you're in, or even north or south of the Bahnhof, but those are two very different neighborhoods. The south side has about a dozen ethnic places within a block of the tunnel entrance. I have stayed down there several times, and I always end up in someplace new.
North is the main tourist drag, right up the Konigstrasse to the main square. Just as you enter the city wall, on the left, is the round Frauenturm, and there's a decent place for bratwurst and local wines right there. About half way to the square, again on the left, Is a place called Barfusser; it's in the cellar, and it's more of a brewpub. It's okay.
Across the street (more or less) is a chain Argentinian Steak place called Maredo. It can be surprisingly good.
The walking path along the river Pegnitz is lined with places. I do not recommend the place in the old hospital; I've never had a good meal or service there. TrodelStuben, on the small island in the middle of the river is good, but small. You may not find a table.
Zum Albrect Durer Haus was one of my friends favorite places, and I've eaten there many times. They do serve Rauschbier (from Bamberg) if you've not tried that. Try the Haxen.
One of my favorite places is the Burgwachter, which has been serving food and beer for centuries. It's named because it's where the castle guards used to hang out. There's a huge mural of a smith hammering out a sword on the wall around the corner. It's right at the foot of the walk up to the castle.
Last, and not a place to eat, but one of the best bars I've been in, is the Atelier Bar which is straight across from the Bahnhof by the Le Meridian (which is a great hotel). The Park Place (right next door) was run by the US Army for over 40 years from 1945 on as a R&R spot for military members.
I love Indian food but don't normally have it on my travels....except in England. Sangam was terrific and the mango chicken dish was so fresh. It was pleasant to sit on their patio and watch the street nightlife.
