Nuremberg with kids

My husband and I will be traveling from Berlin to Nuremberg by train in May, accompanied by our 5 and 8 year old granddaughters. We will spend one day at the Playmobile Park, a short distance from town. Any suggestions for castles, parks, playgrounds, and places where young girls can spend one additional day? They love to climb, run, swim, and otherwise get their energy out. We just got back from a long visit with them in Barcelona and they did great as long as we built in plenty of opportunities for them to be active (counting how many dragons and bats on Gaudi exteriors, chasing bubbles at the Arc de Triomph). Thank you for any and all suggestions.

There is a fun tourist "train" that lasts for 40 minutes and tours the old town of Nuremberg. Lots of fairy tale looking buildings and a castle to see.

There is a train museum with a dedicated section for kids:

There is a Playmobil Fun Park in Zirndorf which is about a 35 minute ride from Nuremberg.

I don't know how much time you will have with your granddaughters in Berlin, but I will say that I think that they might enjoy "Zoo Berlin". When I visited in September, I was impressed with the play areas that they had for kids in the zoo, as well as the beautiful landscaping. Plus, they have a wide variety of animals including giant pandas.

I think I would walk and visit where you want and keep them happy with Ice, Gummies, Bretze and maybe a Bratwürste. Nothing crazy, but local German products they can't get at home. There will be some market stalls on the bridges and Hauptmarket. A walk to the Wöhrder See and the playgounds in the area. Maybe they like the Kaiserburg Nürnberg? The Dürer-Hase Skulptur? There is the Kettensteg. The Fußballkäfige Insel Schütt? The Schöner Brunnen? A coin into the street musicians bowl? I think you get my idea.

Thank you, mchpp, Nigel, Sherry, and Frank II for all of your suggestions. If anyone knows of SPECIFIC playgrounds where they can climb, run, swing, that would be helpful.

Maybe they like

.. the nice and beautifully situated zoo? It's a 15 minutes tram ride (line #5) from the main station.

following as I will be in the same situation with a child (turning five on this trip).
I have the zoo on our list for half a day.
Was looking at the Playmobile Park - I just wonder in our situation (younger than yours) if they get just as much out of a random playground
