November sightseeing options near Munich

In late November my husband and I will be staying with friends in Starnberg for 3 days before the RS Munich-Vienna tour. We are visiting Andechs one day, and looking for day activities for two other days convenient from our base in Starnberg, one via train and the other via car. We already have Old Town Munich and Neuschwanstein scheduled with RS, have been to Dachau and Nuremberg, read we should skip Linderhof and Nymphenburg Palaces in winter, and Eagle's Nest will be closed, so our idea list includes finding something else of interest in Munich and/or visiting Garmisch Partenkirchen, Augsburg, Ulm, Ingolstadt or Regensburg.

We appreciate advice on these options and other ideas. We like to walk and cold weather doesn't bother us, but would weather that time of year impact driving, especially to higher elevation places like Garmisch Partenkirchen?

I don't quite understand why winter should preclude a visit to Nymphenburg.

As for driving... Garmisch (1 hr. from Starnberg) and nearby Mittenwald can easily be visited by train. I wouldn't rent a car for that in any weather.

In Munich , the art museums are well worth your time , as they are world class . In addition the districts of Schwabing and Bogenhausen are replete with great examples of Jugendstil architecture . If you visit Augsburg , be certain to trace the footsteps of the merchant and banking Fugger dynasty . Visiting the " Fuggerei " , the sixteenth century social housing community they founded , is an unforgettable experience , and still viable and active today .
