For those who might be planning to see some of the treasures in the famous Green Vault, there won't be quite as much to see now - https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-50545003 . I'd like to have a word with them about their ineffective alarm system, as it seems that it's badly in need a "tune-up". Obviously this was carried out by a very well organized gang and they've probably disposed of the stolen items by now
Apparently the power was out, or intentionally cut. Terrible cultural losses.
Isn't this from the episode with Giles Conover and the Hoxton Creeper?
Yeah, gonna be there in 3 weeks - bummer. Unbelievable that it appears to be a pretty easy heist. Reports are these treasures can't be easily sold. Must be for a wealthy collector who plans on looking at these themselves. Couldn't tell anyone. Or worse, the gold is melted down and the items are forever lost however the total value would be much less.
Still can't believe security at a major museum with many priceless objects didn't plan for all scenarios.
"Apparently the power was out, or intentionally cut. "
A simple power outage should not disable a properly designed and installed alarm system. I used to work in that field so have some knowledge on the subject. I would have thought that a facility housing such priceless valuables would have had a more robust security system. Apparently they had security guards too, but they must have been snoozing or something?
If the cameras went out with the power, any guards would not have had visibility into the rooms.
And we could go on and on about backup procedures and systems.
Looks like they thought nothing would ever be taken... boy they were wrong! What a shame, these items are lost forever.
The power was apparently cut (there was a fire in a nearby distribution box). The cameras and alarm systems were working, though the videos do not really show much in the darkness. Security guards apparently did not dare to engage professional burglars, but instead called the police. It seems the burglars had already disappeared when police arrived 5 minutes after the call.
