Northern Lights over Germany

This night Northern Lights could be seen all over Germany. So, some happy travelers might have seen them as well.

Picture collection from this night by n-tv:

Some pictures from Northern Germany only by NDR:

Also here in Schwerin they were intensely.

I hope you enjoy the impressions and that interested fellow travelers that this can happen in Germany but it is very seldomly that they can be seen in whole Germany.

Lots of people in Wiesbaden posted photos and those living in the Taunus mountain towns. My Aurora alarm went off but I was in bed and didn't see it til this morning. No lights this morning in Frankfurt.

It seems apps often have a longer pre-information window. In this case I got the notification on my mobile, opened the window and "tata" they were there.

May I ask which Auora app you’ve downloaded and use? I see that there are several available for iPhones. My son and DIL are going to Iceland at the very end of March and it sounds like this would be a good app for them to have. Occasionally northern lights are visible into Northern California but not easy to see with all of the ambient light in the city.

Mona, supposedly they were going to be visible last night but we would have had to get out of the valley. I considered driving up to Auburn or a bit higher, but ended up not doing that. We will be camping in Grass Valley so maybe we will have another opportunity.

I use the free "My Aurora Forecast & Alerts" by JRustonApps B.V. on Android. A Pro version is also available.

Additionally I use various service, for example to guess how the aurora oval will develop - or which moon phase is.

This early evening we had also weak NL which were correctly forecasted by the app.
