Night Trains from Berlin to Krakow and more.

Hi Everyone,

We will be making a multi-leg trip this Fall between. This is our first trip of this type, and are looking for some input. We intend to travel by train between
the following cities:

Berlin - Krakow
Krakow - Prague
Prague - Munich

We are kicking around the idea of taking night trains where available. The idea of saving valuable tourist time by traveling when sleeping is intriguing.
Any opinions out there on if we should do day trains or night trains between these destinations?
Anyone taken a 3 bed compartment before? Sleep well? Noisy?
Is it safe in the station and on the train overnight?
Assuming the train arrives early morning, you can't check into your hotel for 5+ hours. Did you find that to be a major inconvenience?
Any other pros and cons?

TIA for your assistance.

The NightJet from Berlin to Vienna may interest you - it will bring you into Poland

No, it won't. Quoting the NightJet page re NJ 457: no tickets between Poland and Germany.

I took my first night train rides on my first trip in 1971, three of them on that trip, now I am still doing it. Going from Berlin to Vienna can be tailored, which may take one hour longer. The new route as pointed out above now goes through Poland.

I take the route via Munich, all covered on my Pass.

Last summer we went to Krakow, but had to go through Warsaw for decent connections. There is a fast train from Warsaw to Krakow. 6 hours (B to W) plus 3 hours (W to K).

I do not sleep well (continuously) on trains or planes so I just do my best with day/evening travel. Unless you are sure you can, you may end up losing half a day touristing in cities for naps anyway.

Several years ago, I actually did sleep pretty well in a 3-berth sleeper between Krakow and Prague. I happened to have the compartment all to myself! Without that benefit, it still would have provided more breathing room than a 6-passenger couchette. Doors do lock and the conductor was quite proactive about recommending that I do so. Noise from train braking and such may still be unavoidable.
