Night Train Munich to Venice

Hi-

Our family is planning on taking an overnight City Night Line train from Munich to Venice this summer. I have read up on it from the Man in Seat 61's website.

We have 3 sons so we would like to reserve an entire 6-person couchette for our family. On the DB website, it seems very straightforward to book with 5 people. When you have 6 or more people (we will be making up an invisible 6th person to guarantee we have sole occupancy), it has you click a different button and things don't work right. I keep getting an error on information that I know is entered properly.

Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? I hate to contact German tech support before I know if it is something others have figured out already.

Thanks,
Cindy

You should contact German Rail. I think the problem is that for fare purposes, you are only a group of 2, since children under 15 travel for free with their parents, but you need bed reservations for 6. I don't know why it works for five and not six. Must have something to do with what they think a "group" is going to be.

Booking for more than 5 of any age has been a problem for at least a few months, so I think contacting them is warranted.

If your group received a note telling you that you had not entered the required number of persons in your request, please contact a DB Reisezentrum (travel centre), a DB agency or a DB Mobility Center. You can also call the DB service hotline at +49 (0) 180 6 99 66 33 (€0.20/call for German landline calls, max. €0.60/call from mobile phones).
