thinking of taking the night train from berlin to munich. three adults on the trip. any suggestions? couchette versus private slepping car? any suggestions for the trip?
You can get a triple sleeping compartment. It'll be tight.
colette,
I wouldn't bother with a night train on that route, as there are direct trains during the day with a travel time as short as 6H:10M. A night train will be at least 9.5 to 12 hours, and you may find that you don't sleep well with the motion and noise of the train.
Check www.seat61.com for more detailed information on couchette v. sleeper cars.
Hi,
Aside from the couchette and sleeper on the Berlin to Munich night train, the cheapest price is that of the sleeperette, The Ruhesessel, a particular feature of the CNL trains. The times I've taken the sleeperette option, almost always on the CNL, no problems in sleeping, very satisfactory. But I've never seen any Americans doing likewise taking the sleeperette. Can't help you on the couchette or sleeper, never used them.
If you want to add an extra day to the Berlin stay, the CNL night train gives you that choice.
DB web site doesn't show any triples on this route, so I'd choose the 4-berth couchette, if taking the night train. I have not tried the reclining seats.
