Although we're staying in apartments for the rest of our trip, I just realized we will need to stay in a hotel for one night in August.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a medium-priced hotel either near the station or somewhere near a car rental agency? I've been reading that picking up cars at the airport or train station is more expensive so it would be okay to find a place that is not necessarily near the station if there's a car rental place nearby.

Good price and centrally located. I read a lot of reviews, and many said they have the best breakfast buffet in Germany. I will see :). Good luck and hope this helps.
I was going to recommend the same hotel! We have stayed at the Coellner Hof twice and have only wonderful things to say about it.

It is about a 10 min. walk from the main station.
Just outside the door of the station, tun right (I think there is also a direct door into the station) is an Ibis. What a view - directly overlooking the Dom and its two towers.
