Hello all! We will be in Munich for New Years Eve. Any suggestions? We have been to Munich before ,but in the summer. Are there any special events going on that we would need to make reservations for? Thanks, Dan

I have been in Munich on New Years Eve. If you go downtown, it will be a huge mass of loud and drunk people. They call New Years Eve "Sylvester" and believe in setting off lots of loud firecrackers, singing loud songs, and such. There was much general merriment which I found very exciting when I was 21!

There are no "must attend" events but there will be a lot of places offering Sylvester parties (clubs, restaurants, beer halls, probably even a private party tram). A lot of people like to head to the Theresienwiese (same place as Oktoberfest) for the Tollwood festival. If you can get access to a rooftop terrace you will be rewarded with a pretty awesome amateur fireworks show.
