Hoping to be in Berlin for New Years Eve. Any suggestions on where to celebrate. Brandenburg Gate seems to be the place to be or is there somewhere else with good view of the fireworks. Will be my mum and I (40yr & 60yr).
My Husband and I have spent several New Years in Berlin. We absolutely love it there. Yes most people go to Brandenburg Gate but Berliners celebrate all over the city. There is a nice party at the Gendarmenmarket (sp). We buy our fireworks for the evening, then find a nice place to have a late dinner then go out in the street just before midnight and fire off the fireworks like everyone else. It is truly an experience.
It doesn't matter where you celebrate, it will be crazy everywhere. Brandenburg Gate is just very crowded.
Here is a video of the war zone around Oberbaumbrücke for instance:

Search for "Silvester Berlin" on Youtube to see more.
Still want to go? ;-)

Thanks for your replies. I guess we will just have to wait till we get there and see what we decide to do. We're from Sydney so we are used to dealing with crowds during NYE, just without the personal fireworks. It also reminds me of NYE in Scotland.
