New Year’s Eve in Frankfurt

We have an overnight layover in Frankfurt on 12/31 - 1/1. We land in Frankfurt at 15:10 and are staying at the Hyatt Place at Gateway Gardens. We fly out the next day around noon.

We are super low key. We don’t want to do anything fancy or costly, just grab some dinner and see the fireworks. Will restaurants or markets be open? Where is the best place to watch the fireworks?

Fireworks will be going off all over the city for at least an hour. If you want dinner, you need reservations ASAP. Anyplace along the river is a good place to watch them, but it will be noisy and messy.
Personally, I hate being in the city on NYE. All the drunk people shooting fireworks all over the place. Broken glass everywhere. All of Germany is like this. It is awful. Truly my least favorite holiday.

Is there anywhere to see the fireworks from “a safe distance” without having to be right in the city?

Probably one of the bridges near the ECB?
Best would have been one of the hotels with a view, like the Marriott, JW Marriot, Flemings City, the Hilton City Center or Lindner Crown Plaza. Or dinner in the Main Tower or the former Henniger Turm, but my guess is that those have all been booked since last year.
Since Gateway Gardens is all hotels and no residences, there probably will not be any fireworks out there at all, other than the random person setting a few off. They are legal to buy in Germany the 3 days prior to NYE, and they sell really good ones.

ECB? Your probably right about the hotels and restaurants, but this was just a fluke that we happen to be there for New Years, so just booked what was convenient to our travel home from several weeks with about son and family for Christmas is Kandern.
