Neuschwanstein Visit

We're planning a visit to Neuschwanstein castle in August and plan to also see Hohenschwangau castle.

We'll be driving from Munich in the morning. I'm trying to plan out the day and wanted to end up in Oberammergau in mid to late afternoon. Looking at the schedule of tours, some are in-person, others are audio tours. While I would usually want a live tour guide, the timing might work better of one of the two castle tours are audio. Has anyone ever done an audio tour at the castles? I understand that there is not much to see inside Neuschwanstein. Maybe a Neuschwanstein audio tour would be "good enough"?.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

When we went to see both castles, we did NStein in the Morning, had lunch and then visited Hohenschwangau at 2 pm.
Our tour for Hohenschwangau was audio only. ON that tour, visitors were given headsets and each could choose the language they wanted to use.
So there were 10-15 people on our tour time, and a guide who would lead them to each room and then we would press play and everyone heard it in the language of choice. Then after a few minutes after everyone had heard the audio. (Guide said the Japanese version was longer than the English or German versions, so we had to wait until that language finished) the guide led us to the next room, and so on.
So the audio tour worked well for us at Hohenschwangau. we had a live tour guide for NStein. I think the audio tour would be just fine for that building also.

Both tour types are escorted and timed, so you wont be able to linger, even with the audio guide. So pick whichever ones work for you. But do give yourselves time for a break in between.

We visited Neuschwanstein last June and I had the same question—audio or live tour. I ended up booking the audio tour simply because it was the first English tour of the day, and I thought it might be less crowded. I had also read reviews that if you were at the end of the tour in N, could be hard to hear. Also had decided to forego Hohenschwangau in order to visit some other places. Audio guide was fine. Don’t miss going to the various viewpoints within the castle after the tour, as well as to the bridge above.
