Neuschwanstein renovations: Still worth going?

I am wondering if anyone here has visited Neuschwanstein recently and can give me some insight into the impact of the renovations being done.

I have visited the castle in the past, and was planning to go again this August, but am wondering if the renovations and scaffolding are so extensive as to make it a disappointing experience. Their website says that "parts of the east facade and the south tower will still be covered by scaffolding until mid-2019. At the same time, the retaining wall of the Neuschwansteinstraße in the area below the quadrilateral tower is being renovated to the gatehouse and is therefore scaffolded" and also that "The singer's hall is currently half scaffolded. Part of the framework is provided with a semi-transparent, printed screen."

Thanks for any feedback.

We lived in Germany for four years and I have been to Neuschwanstein 3 times. After visiting some very historical castles in Germany, Neusch--- seems to become less a draw. Frankly, if the castle is still being renovated, I would skip it.

Is Neuschwanstein EVER not in a state of renovation?? 😉 it’s relatively new (for a castle) was not really ever used because King Ludwig died too soon, draws hordes of tourists, and now has more scaffolding and screens than I’ve ever seen. If you can go to Linderhof I would highly recommend that one.

I toured two weeks ago for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. The last room is the Singers Hall which was nearly filled with scaffolding so couldn’t see much but you get the idea, and the rest of what you saw was great. I enjoyed the other castle too, didn’t get to Linderhof.

So we've decided to skip the guided tour of Neuschwanstein and just see the outside of it either before or after doing the Hohenschwangau tour instead. I keep reading that the latter isn't as popular as the former and am wondering if we still need to reserve tickets in advance, or can wing it and get them on the day of. We are going in early August.

Thanks.
