My husband and I have 2 full days in Bavaria (we have an Air BnB in Fussen) and we have some outdoor and indoor places to visit. I would like to leave it a little open-ended depending on the weather. I have read many places that a reservation for Neuschwanstein is recommended - is that essential for early March? I don't want to waste a ton of time in line but I'd like to leave the nicer day for the outdoor plans. Thanks for any help!!
I followed RS tips for managing the site, went early and had zero problems getting a ticket for both castles (in May.) I would recommend seeing them both, with Neauschwanstein second per his advice.
I’m sure you’re aware, but you are definitely up in the mountains there so it may be quite cold with snow. I was surprised to find the big lake there (Wannsee?) was basically a mud pit that fills up with the spring snowmelt.
Get a reservation no matter the month.
The above poster is correct. The castle is packed with tour groups pretty much yearly so reserving a spot is essential.

The weather is almost guaranteed to be cold:

You might take an advance-peek at ways to avoid long periods outside, especially the long walk up to N'stein and back. The interior tour is 30 minutes max.
