Update: Neuschwanstein Castle tickets now available for sale in April

Last year I tried to buy tickets for April and they weren't available. So I emailed them and this is the answer I got:

"Due to a slight uncertainty about extensive restoration work being carried out in the rooms of Neuschwanstein (i.e. available capacities), as well as a possible adjustment in prices, online tickets for both Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castle have only recently been made available until March 31st 2024 (winter season).

The two castle administrations gradually 'release' tickets for later dates/seasons, however only at shorter notice and, of course, depending any given regulations/restrictions. We would therefore kindly ask that you check our website regularly for any updates. We only expect tickets for the summer season (01.04.24 – 15.10.24) to be made available in January 2024 at the earliest (subject to change). Unfortunately, we are unable to notify you or make reservations by email due to the high volume of requests we receive.

Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions. We look forward to welcoming you to the village of Hohenschwangau, soon."

Curious if anyone knows a bit more about this. I guess I'll have to keep refreshing the site every day until they're up.

I hope you eventually get the tickets you want. As an aside, this was the most disappointing place we have visited anywhere, would not recommend it to anyone. We had to go out of our way to visit and wished we hadn’t bothered.

Hang in there, I guess, if Neuschwanstein is important for you. I think it's worth a visit if you are close by. The area itself is lovely. As a long side trip from Munich, then not so much.

Neuschwanstein is a bucket item for a lot of people but honestly it’s really kinda “meh” on the inside,IMO. Don’t feel like you’ve missed out on the crown jewel of a German trip if you can’t make it work. A tour of Hohenschwangau is more interesting. The best part of Neuschwanstein for me are the views of it from the hills. Check closures to see if Marienbrücke is open though.

I Completely agree with Chris and Suki. I found it took all day, was a lot of waiting in line, and just not worth it.

@Pat did you buy tickets beforehand or were you waiting in line for tickets?

Thus was precovid, and the advice in the RS book was confusing at the time. We tried to buy tickets online but they were out. So we arrived at 8 am and stood in line for an hour. Then even with timed tickets we stood in line at each residence. ( The tickets we received were not for several more hours after 8:00 am) The line for the bus up to N'stein was very long, and we stood in that line for about an hour. We did find the walk down afterward pleasant. We did see both palaces. We were absolutely exhausted with tired backs from standing in so many lines.
Good luck!

Thanks for reporting back. I hope you enjoy your visit. You might consider editing your title to something like, "Update: tickets now available for Neuschwanstein"

I just bought two tickets for both castles online. Gee's what a tight ship they run. No exchange, or refund for any reason. Does that mean if I die before the visit, there's no refund?
When filling out info for tickets, they never asked for names-only when you purchased with credit card and you gave the name on your credit card, but tickets do not have any names listed. Just a scan icon and time/date of visit.
Strange-could I resell the tickets??? Doesnt make since.
