I will be in Munich for work in June. Coworkers are heading back stateside and I was planning on staying a couple extra days. I was looking at taking a day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle. I will not have my own transportation. Looking to find out helpful suggestions on how to get there, best ways to reach the castle? Has anyone every used any of the smaller tours out of Munich? Thank You.
Bayern ticket from Munich to Fussen, which includes S-bahn in Munich and the bus from Fussen to/from the castle area. Reserve castle tickets online, buy your Bayern ticket at the S-bahn or U-bahn station near your hotel, and follow the crowd off the train in Fussen.
Hi Joseta, I made the trip last year, but with one of the tour bus services. They were good and hassle free. IT's abit $ 75 but if you want to splarge take the VIP one for double the cost, it's worth every penny. This is with "Grayline" and you can find them online. They leave from across the main train station. Enjoy! if it's a nice day, it will be great.
I would not take one of the third party tours of Neuschwanstein. It's too easy to do it on your own. The tours just prey on those who can't figure it out on their own.
I agree this daytrip is super easy and tours just prey on the innocent...except for 1 particular group. Mike's Bikes will transport you their via coach then hook you up with a bike and take you all around the area for a very pleasant bike trip /sightseeing. Lunch was also included (I think) and we ate as a group along the bike tour. After seeing the castles you'll be transported back via coach.
Now if biking doesn't interest you then by all means get a Bayern Ticket and do it the super cheap way.
