Neuschwanstein at Night

Can the Marianbrucke bridge to view Neuschwanstein Castle be accessed before or after the shuttle buses business hours? My family and I will be driving into Fussen around 2/2:30pm and the last shuttle is at 3:30. If we arrive too late for the shuttle are we permitted to walk up by ourselves or is the access road gated after hours? The shuttle opens at 9am, but seeing the castle that day would put a time squeeze on other activities. We don’t plan on going inside the castle and just want a photo from the bridge. Thank you in advance!

The only time the bridge is closed is when weather conditions make it unsafe. But if the shuttles are done for the day, you will have a min. 45 minute steep climb up from the parking lot. Wear sturdy shoes. Bring water.

Thank you! I know my teenagers won’t appreciate the hike but I appreciate at least knowing the parameters.

If you have the time, if it's light enough and if kids are up to it, after crossing the bridge follow the path upwards through the woods, veer left after a fair bit. A different and better view.

Thank you for the advice to keep walking for a better view. Also, I’m hoping that snow won’t be an issue in late March, but if the bridge happens to be closed that day where would the next best view be?

Lara, by 'better', a word I shouldn't really use, I meant a more panoramic view of the surrounding area, a shot you'll get from further up the hill. You can take a very good shot of the castle from the bridge and from just below the castle itself.

A different angle can be obtained from the walk up from Schwangau.

Alot depends your camera. Mine's just an old Panasonic Lumix something or other, the zoom quality of which is not the best beyond a certain point.
