Need some clarification for Deutcheland ticket for single month purchase

I'm planning to get the deutcheland ticket on the HVV switch app for the month of June only. But I am a bit unsure what to do. On the app, it says the first month is pro rata'ed, so if i select to start on the 8th June and cancel straight away I interpret that as I will be billed for 8 June - 30 June only and the subscription terminates.

However, some posts on the internet is saying you must buy for an entire month since its a subscription service, which means if i buy starting 8 June its not a full month, so it will charge me pro rata for June and then charge the full month of July even if i cancel before the 10 June. I don't know whether this is true because the app FAQ doesn't mention anything like this. Has anyone done this before that can clarify please?

Can I also confirm, with the D-Ticket, I don't need to book anything in advance, i just show up and board the train when it arrives and sit anywhere?

And the D-Ticket will cover me for the following trips?
1 Regensburg to Nuremberg

2 Nuremberg to Moosach in Munich

Thank you.

Buy the ticket now. Buy it starting 1 June. You have to cancel the subscription NLT 15 June to avoid paying for July. You will still be able to travel until 30 June.

Regensburg to Nuremberg is covered on either the RE40 or RE50 trains (no transfers), but not on the ICE.

Nuremberg to Munich you can use that ticket on the RE1 to the main Hbf and then pick a regional Sbahn to Moosach (also covered by the Deutschland Ticket.)

Put the DB app on your phone. The ticket will show up under "my journeys".

You do not have to confirm a seat. You just get on the train and find one. Make sure you don't go into 1st Class unless you buy that ticket.

This is all current and correct info. I have and use the ticket. It's one of the best deals around.

The info on the app is amazing; do you have the latest version? If so, it's highly misleading. However, only the text of the fare regulations of the HVV is legally binding, which doesn't know the concept of prorated tickets any more. 1)
The prorated ticket was originally an advertising measure of the HVV and some other carriers, but it has since been abolished by the responsible federal/laender commission and every provider must comply with this regulation.

Put the DB app on your phone. The ticket will show up under "my journeys".

Yes, but only if you have purchased it from DB. But this is usually not possible for visitors from overseas because DB only allows direct debiting from an account within the EU. So you have to buy from another carrier, like HVV, MVV etc. (and that's not a disadvantage - most of them are far less bureaucratic than DB).

1) "Subscriptions can be started on the first of each month. The subscription contract is concluded for an indefinite period and can be cancelled on a monthly basis. Cancellation must be made by the 10th of the month to the end of the respective calendar month."

I purchased through MVV app and it worked quite easily. It is a calendar monthly subscription. You can subscribe, wait for the confirmation email that includes the link for cancelling, and cancel right away if you only want one month. You will still have that one month D ticket as valid.

Thank you for that information.

This is what it says on the app on the main purchase page.

Start flexibly, the 1st month is charged pro rata.
Your Deutschlandticket is automatically renewed at the end of the month. Can be cancelled monthly by the 10th of the month. If you buy after the 10th, you will automatically buy for the current and the following month.

This suggests that it can start anytime before the 10th. However unclear whether if not a full month charged, it will charge the next month too.

You are severely overthinking this . Just buy and pay for the entire month of June. Period. If your app remains so confusing , try MVV app.

Ok, that's not what the app says, but the advertising text. It's probably not yet adapted to the current conditions quoted above. So, if it's important for you to save €7, then write to the HVV Switch people, complain about the carelessness and ask for clarification. In my experience, they respond within 24-48 hours. Otherwise, I would simply pay the fare for the full month. It's not too bad an offer even then.

thank you everyone. Okay I will buy for whole month then.

Is it a QR code or a digital card that gets generated on the purchase, if its a QR code, could i simply print it off in case I have no reception on my phone? Actually, do i need reception in order to use the card if loaded to my apply wallet?

You need to download the vendor's app (MVV, HVV, Bremen Fahrplaner etc) and register. Shortly before the ticket becomes valid, a QR code appears in the app and is saved there so that you don't have to be online. Screenshots, printouts etc. are not valid (you can still make one to be on the safe side in case your mobile phone crashes; this might stop the conductor from fining you €60 on the spot).

It may be easiest for you to follow the instructions of the Man in Seat 61.

I tried the HVV app and it was confusing, so I bought my ticket on the MVV app. It was much easier and easy to cancel since I only wanted it for one month.

Ok thank you

I’m buying advance so am I safe to cancel after the payment goes through and BEFORE the ticket appears on the app? Or do I need to wait for the ticket to appear first?

I’m actually not travelling in Hamburg but it is my understanding that I don’t need to be Hamburg to use the hvv app for the ticket and that is valid throughout Germany regardless of which provider you get from. Is this correct?

Ok to cancel after payment goes through. On the MVV app it specifies cancellation day and the QR code was available from the start.

Correct. Since the Deutschlandticket is not a centralised offer, but one of the federal states, there is also no central provider (DB likes to present itself as such, but that is pure bluff). Each transport association issues it and each one's DT is valid throughout the country. You just need to make sure that the provider accepts credit cards or PayPal and not just direct debit (which doesn't work with non-EU accounts)

I used D-Ticket via MVV app in February. Worked great. You do not need to be online to show your ticket in the MVV app.

For travel on DB, go the the bahn.de website or on their app and select the only local transport under means of transport. This will list all the local services that are eligible for D-Tickets. Be aware that some conductors will ask to see your passport for identification verification.
