Need restaurant recommendation for Berlin - traditional German food

Two weeks from now I will be in Berlin doing the typical tourist things. I have invited my 30 yo nephew, who I haven't seen in 15 years and who lives in that city working for a well known US company, to dinner probably on Unity Day October 3. I would like recommendations for restaurants that specialize in German food that are located in central Berlin (as far west as Charlottenburg - not sure how far east), is medium priced, does not have a dress code other than not be a slob, and doesn't hurry the diners.

Thanks for your help.

German food isn't one type fits all. In Berlin, you'll have wonderful access to Prussian cuisine given your proximity to the former German state. I really enjoyed Marjellchen. For lunch one day, go to a stand that sells currywurst, a Berlin staple.

Your nephew would know Berlin restaurants far better than almost any tourist on this site. Why not go with his recommendation?

2nd the recommendation for Prussian food at Marjellchan. Definitely try the currywurst sometime and the Berliner potato & sausage soup.

It is out of place for Berlin, but the Haufbrau Berlin serves a Sunday Buffet that features about the whole Bavarian menu. Great chance to sample that regional cuisine

Why don't you ask your nephew to make a suggestion? I'm sure there is either a place he would like to try or that he likes.

The East Prussian restaurant is most recommendable, better reserve first unless you plan being there at 9:30 pm, even then it's still packed at times. It is a restaurant of the "old school."

How far east are going? How about a restaurant in Berlin-Köpenick?

It's called "Restauration zur Gardestube"...old time Berlin place, advertises the cuisine of Berlin at the turn of the century, cheaper than Marjellchen. It is located at the corner of Rosenstraße and Böttcherstraße across from the side of the Köpenick Rathaus. I was here twice, the first time to check it out since I was at the Rathaus anyway, the next day came back for dinner. You won't see any international tourists here, only working class locals.

Hi,

If you need a couple more recommendations for traditional Berlin cuisine to choose from, I can give you those too, both in eastern and western Berlin.

Die Henne restaurant can't be beat - although it's not German.
