Need reservation advice for train travel from a) Vienna to Prague, and later b) Prague to Berlin!

Our family plans to travel from Vienna to Prague, and later from Prague to East Berlin via train. Several quick questions:

  1. Where (web site?) & how is the easiest way to book tickets?
  2. Do you recommend traveling first class on these routes (I typically find it worth a little more for 4+ hour trips such as this)?
  3. Should I get train reservation in advance, or am I safe waiting until day of trip?

We will not need a train pass, since this is the only train travel we will be incurring. As always, I really appreciate your advice!!!

The easiest way is with the Czech Railways https://old.cd.cz/eshop/where you can book both journeys in one go. Payment by credit card and tickets are emailed in pdf-format for printing at home. It worked fine with me. If you have any issues, try Trainline (https://www.trainline.eu/).
First class is a total waste of money. These are comfortable trains and these journeys are around 4 hrs.
Advance booking can come with considerabe discount.

We traveled by train from Vienna to Prague in May. We'd bought our tickets ahead for the best price and made a seat reservation. The train wasn't crowded as it left Vienna but it became very crowded as we went along, so we were certainly glad we had the reserved seats.

Definitely check out Czech railways, this was a lot cheaper compared DBahn. We went the opposite direction Berlin to Prague. Definitely book in advance if you want to save money. It cost 48 euros for 2 people one way.
