Just one night, I leave in the for Venice after visiting relatives further out in Munich but I just found out that the day I leave they are starting construction on the U-line I was going to take. With the detours and buses, it could be a transit mess and easier to stay closer in. I know that area can be sketchier than other parts of the city.
TIA.
There is a Sofitel virtually attached to the south side of the station. The front of the station is a giant construction project as they rebuild the station on the fly.
We had a nice stay at Hotel Metropol by Maier Privathotels which is right by the station. The Sofitel is nicer but the price was right for our stopover at the Metropol. I got the best rate on BC in December 2024.
I've stayed at the Hotel Royal a couple of times, and it's within easy walking distance from the station. The cost was reasonable, they served a very complete breakfast and the room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is located in a somewhat "seedy" area but that doesn't bother me, as that's not reflected inside.
As I recall, there's a very posh hotel connected to the station, but I can't remember what the name is. If you have a larger budget, that may be an option too.
That would be the Eden Hotel Wolff, across from the north exit.
We stayed at Le Meridien right across the street from the station. Not cheap but I was able to book using Marriott points and it was very nice.

Maybe thinking of the Intercity Hotel, which is now closed.
I cannot recommend this enough. Just a 5five minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof. Family owned and very clean.
We did Kings hotel. Worked for us
I’ve twice stayed at Hotel Excelsior very nearby.
Thank you, everyone! Very helpful ideas. Yes, that area is gritty but I anticipate the first day of the detours and special buses, at rush hour, just more hassle than I need before catching an early train to Venice. I did not realize there was construction outside (I was there last year and the inside was a mess).
