Need help in pLanning a 2-3 week trip in September starting out in Amsterdam and continuing on to the Mosel Valley in Germany around the Cochem/Muden area on a quest to find answers to some genealogy questions regarding my husband’s grandmother. He may be related to the Dehen Family who has a Winery there. Would appreciate any suggestions of how much time we need in each place and any stops to make along the way that would be interesting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well Mueden is hiking distance of Burg Eltz, being the next train stop past Moselkern.
I see a Weingut Sonneneck walking distance from the station, always great places to stay.
Here is their site, but you will have to use Google Translate function on Chrome.

Stay at least 3 days to get to know the area. Trains are at least 1 per hour in either direction.
Be sure to stay in the area over a weekend to attend a "Strassenweinfest". September is harvest time and these festivals are in various towns in the valley every week end.
Rent bikes and take a ride or two along the river.
