Need help with Bavarian Alps Itinerary

Hi friends, I've changed my mind and instead of doing the Romantic Road- the family has voted we would prefer to explore the beautiful Alps. Can you help me figure out how much is do-able in one day and in what order to visit? I'd like to consolidate staying in a place for more than one night if possible.

7/ 23 - Leave Amsterdam, fly to Munich, arrive at 6:30pm. Sleep in Munich.
7/ 24 - Day in Munich. Marienplatz, Market, English Gardens, surfing, Hofbraus. Sleep in Munich.
7/ 25 - Train to Garmisch Partenkirchen then rent car. Partnach Gorge. Drive to Mittenwald. Sleep in GP?
7/ 26 - Zupgspite in the morning,Neuschwanstein Castle- where should we stay overnight? Oberammergau or GP?
7/ 27 - Lake Chiemsee? Is there a smaller more picturesque lake and village nearby?
7/ 28 - Return car. Day in Munich. Sleep in Munich.
7/ 29 - Leave Munich, John flys home, Lauren & I fly to Barcelona.

Hi Kelsey,
We did a similar tour last year. We were in Munich, spent a couple of days. One of which was going out to Neuschwanstein Castle.
We then drove to Gramisch Partenkirchen on the way we stopped at Linderholf Palace and did the tour. We stayed at the Olympic Ski Jump (Restaurant-BB) (was perfect because thats where you start off for the Partnach Gorge. We then did Zugspite and Alpinspite the next day (I would recommend the second because you can walk down from there on a bueatiful trail). We spent 3 days there - you might be able to get do it in 2 depending on weather. Zugspite is not good when all clouded in. Then over the pass into Austria (watch your speed limits ) and it was a long drive to Hallstatt. We stayed in Hallstat 2 days and did the Salt Mine there. Then we continued on to the Cz Rep. but you could go back to Munich.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions! Anyone else have any thoughts? I want to make sure I am traveling in an order that makes sense? I also would prefer to rent the car for as few days as possible.

7/27 - If you are starting out in Oberammergau or Garmisch Partenkirchen, I don't know that I would go all the way to Chiemsee. It's a long way to go for a partial copy of Versailles. There are four pretty lakes (Walchensee, Kochelsee, Tegernsee, and Schliersee south of Munich. Three of them are easily accessible by rail from Munich (Walchensee is on the bus route from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Kochelsee) - you really don't need a car for them.

In addition, there are two larger lakes, Ammersee and Starnbergersee, on the way back to Munich from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Thanks for the advice! I have been to Tegernsee before so I'd like to explore a new lake. Which is your favorite if you had to choose?
