Need help on MVV tickets

My husband and I are flying in to Munich for 2 days (16th and 17th) and will need access to train, U, S, bus to travel around Munich and to Dachu and back to town.

Then we are taking a 9 day bus tour and returning back to Munich for two more days, 26th and 27th, for the city and to get to the airport.

Then we are going to Switzerland and France and return to Munich by train for two days 30th and 31st and will need it for the city and to get back to the airport on the 31st.

So, what tickets should we buy? Do we buy three (2 day) group tickets. One set for the 16,17th. One set for the 26, 27th and a third set for the 30, 31st? Or does someone else have a better suggestion?

Group tickets come in 1-day varieties for different zones, and in 3-day for inner zone only.
So you would buy an entire network ticket on your arrival day for 24.30 EUR to get from the airport. Second day, if you were going to Dachau, you would buy an XXL group ticket for 16.30 EUR. On subsequent trips back, if you were not going outside the inner district, just by an inner zone group ticket for 12.80 EUR, then another entire network ticket to go back to the airport, or 2 single tickets the airport for 23.20 EUR.

I think it is not for March, because we are already past the 16th and 17th. What month?

I don't think a 3 day, inner zone ticket will be cost effective. There are other options.

Any day when all of your travel will be entirely in the inner zone, an inner zone group ticket will be the most cost effective. When you come in from the airport you will need an entire network group ticket. if you go to Dachau, you will need a München XXL (2 zone) group ticket.

At the train station, some sbahn stations, airport, etc there will be self serve ticket machine as well as manned ticket counters. If you’re unsure just buy from the ticket counter. There’s a small convenience fee, but it’s negligible.

Do we buy three (2 day) group tickets.

Group three day inner zone tickets cost 29,60€, and are valid only for three consecutive days. For two consecutive days, two group inner zone tickets cost less, 25,60€.

And, the three day ticket is only valid for travel in the inner zone. For the days when you travel includes zones outside the inner one, adding single trip tickets for the extra zones you need will cost more than day tickets (München XXL and Gesamtnetz).

Sorry I couldn't reply until now. I volunteer a lot to help non profit organizations when they are short handed. We are going in May.
Again, I want to thank all of you for your very helpful information. This forum is such a good idea, since a lot of travel agents in the U.S. aren't familiar with those much needed details.
