Need assistance with booking train

Howdy,
I'm getting ready to book a train ticket for the wife and I and I wanted to check and make sure I'm not screwing anything up as this is our first time.

We're traveling from Munich airport to Graz, Austria via train on 6/30/16. We're not sure exactly what time we'll be into the airport, so I'm thinking a flex pass is the way to go. Below is the link to the choices we have for trains (hope it works...).

My question is: If we get the flex pass tickets for the 13:24 train and we're earlier or later into Munich than we planned for, is this ticket still good for the 11:24 or 15:24 itinerary? I would imagine it is, but was a little concerned that the price isn't exactly the same for the other flex pass options. Hope this all makes sense. Just didn't want to spend $200 and then have it be useless if we don't make that exact train.

You're referring here to a FlexPreis, full-fare ticket (not a pass). It is "fully flexible, not bound to a specific train / not dependent on the connection indicated on the selected route." German day trains generally don't require reservations, so you can board any train on the given route with a full fare ticket (or an open, multi-day rail pass). You can also buy the exact same ticket at the train station. In Germany, the main things that would bind you to a specific train departuer are an advance-discount fare with more restrictions or a sleeper reservation on a night train.

One thing you can do is buy a flexible ticket from Salzburg to Graz. Cost is 108.80 EUR for 2 from the Deutsche Bahn website. Or you could just buy the ticket when you get to Salzburg. When you arrive at Munich airport, buy a 2-person Bayern ticket out of the kiosk for 28 EUR. Go on the next S-bahn to Munich Hbf, then the next Meridian train to Salzburg. There are trains every 2 hours from Salzburg to Graz, most direct, one with a change at Bischofshofen. You could take a quick look around Salzburg that way.
Also, depending on what S-bahn you take from the airport, you can get off at Munich Ost and change to the Meridian train there.
Doing this will save about 46 EUR over getting the flexible tickets from the airport to Graz.

Why worry about buying tickets in advance especially if you don't know arrival times etc. just wait until you get to the train station and buy your tickets there. You'll most likely save money and don't have to stress about arrival times or missing trains etc.
