Need advice about seeing Passion Play in Oberammergau

Hi,
We would love to see the Passion play in Oberammergau, preferably next Sept. or October. We just came back from a wonderful trip to Germany and Salzburg in August, so, we'd be comfortable going on our own and using public transportation to get to Oberamergau We'd also be fine with going on our own and getting a tour from a gateway city, (Vienna, Munich, etc.), or going on a guided tour/cruise. My concern in going on our own is how/where. (and availability), to get tickets/accommodations for just 2 people, We hear that tour companies are buying up available tickets already-as well as accommodations.

We'd probably have a time span of 7-8 days, and would like to take Vienna in as well. Does anyone have any recommendations for tour companies?

Rather than going by what you might have heard about all the tickets being snatched up, just check the official website where you will find the ticket offers as well as the accommodation offers that usually include lunch/dinner. Take the train there and combine your visit with the other cities you want to visit. Lots of people on this forum can help you with transportation, etc.

Sorry, I don't know about tour companies, but you could maybe email the Town Tourist Board.

Did you know it's a 5 hour commitment, all in German? However, you can purchase Playbooks in both/either German or English translation.

The stage is an an open-air arrangement, but there are some coverings that still may keep you dry during a rainstorm.

The intermission is a 2-hour span for everyone to get lunch, all at the same time.

O'gau is a delightful town with wonderful other sights, etc.

The townspeople are even now growing out their beards and long hair, making their own costumes, and even using vegetable dye to color them. Hope you get to see it!

We did the Passion Play while we lived in nearby Augsburg. It is wonderful.

No way will you be able to buy tickets on your own. You must buy them in advance.
