Need adaptor for Frankfurt airport?

Will be getting a connecting flight in Frankfurt in late November this year. Live in U.S. Does anyone know if I need an adaptor in the Frankfurt airport? If so, what kind??

Thank you in advance!

Plug adaptor? You bet. Its Europe. Standard continental type will do. Assume this for a charger for electronics which will take 110 to 220 VAC.

Depends on your device's charging cable. Do you have a USB cable? If not, then you need a Type C or equivalent adaptor (assuming that you have a 240v ungrounded power cord. 2015 rerport:

Thank you for the quick replies!

Duh! It's Europe. I was hoping the airport would have some U.S. compatible outlets. Sounds like an American assumption!

Well, I'll go prepared with adaptor and converter for my IPhone.

Do you routinely find European electrical outlets in US airports? :)

Start by understanding the difference between the two. You will need an adapter (for the physical plug). Unless your iPhone is from the 1980s (in which case you should sell it on eBay for serious bucks) you will not need a converter. Your existing iPhone charging block/wall-wart will handle European electrons without issue - as long as you can plug it in (using an adapter).

Clotilde,

As mentioned in the previous reply, you don't need a voltage converter to charge products like iPhones. The provided chargers will work fine on 220 VAC. You will however need a Euro Plug Adapter.

The only place you might find American sockets would be an airline lounge. Not likely in the public areas.

I will be in Frankfurt airport on Sunday.....will check. I think that there were USB ports in the gate areas, but don't recall for sure. I stayed overnight at the Hilton, and my room actually had US style 120v outlets.

I don't remember ever seeing US style outlets anywhere in Europe(and we often stay in Hiltons) so I suspect the Frankfurt Hilton is an outlier even among Hiltons. And when we visited England this summer, our adaptor stopped working(it was one of those that has several different countries and you slide for the one you want) and we had a very difficult time finding any US to Europe plugs in stores.

I have a vague recollection seeing "Shaver Only" outlets in some European bathrooms that look like they would take a North Amerian two flat prong plug and were marked 110v. I didn't test out the 110v outlet.

Thank you to all for the informative replies.

I've gleaned enough info so that it has clarified my expectations of the airports in Europe. Since we will be returning to the States via connection in Istanbul I've checked into the needed adaptors for Germany, Turkey and in South Africa where we will be spending most of our time.

I picked up a 6-pack of plugs on Amazon for about 9 bucks. I bought one in Amsterdam for about 8 euros! Mind you, the Amsterdam one is way more robust.

Sorry, just in FRA this morning and was rushed for time....didn't get a change to check the stores for plugs. A previous poster has covered it, and I'm sure their info is accurate.

As for the Hilton, stayed there last night. Bathrooms have a North American "shaver" outlet (2 prong only), but my desk had one three prong North American outlet along with a UK plug. Didn't matter, I just used my Europe converters.
