Hi
We are planning on a visit to the castles in this area. Need hotel recommendation and siteseeing other than the Necschwanstein castles.

There's a good selection of hotels in Füssen, which is the closest rail station to the castles. You could check Trip Advisor or the RS Germany guidebook.
You may want to also visit Hohenschwangau Castle. The guidebook may have other suggestions on sightseeing in that area.

Fussen is one of the favorite places I've been. It's picturesque and has an interesting museum. We stayed at a place Rick recommends-I think it was across the street from the rail station. It had a chocolate fountain at breakfast!

When in that area we stayed at Hotel Goldener Hirsch in Reutte. Fair hotel, nice breakfast, quirky owner. We enjoyed our stay there.

We stayed at hotel fantasia, near Fussen train station and bus to Neuschwanstein. They have package includes the castle tickets and breakfast. They can make reservation for the castles. We liked Fussen, a pretty town.

There are also hotels right at the base of the castle such as Hotel Alpenstuben just next door to the ticket office. There are very nice hotels with wonderful restaurants in Horn near the lake with a beautiful view to the castles. Hotel Helmerhof and Hotel Rubezahl are the 2 favorites that come to mind. Fussen may be interesting to some, but I'd rather stay out in the village of Horn with the bike paths and CrystalTherme pools and cows with clanging bells - it's so much more picturesque and enjoyable.
