Nazi Documentation Centers

In late May and early June 2018, my wife and I will be spending three days in Munich and two days in Nurnberg. I noticed that both cities have a Nazi Documentation Center. Are they both the same? Is one better than the other? We are also going to Dachau

I don't think they are the same. I visited the one in Nuremberg and the one in Berchtesgaden, and they were different. FYI, almost everything is in German as I recall, and I found that the English audio guide simply read the translated German text in English, which got to be tedious after a while. The visual stuff is first-rate though.

We visited the one in Munich during our trip earlier this month. I had planned on spending 60-90 minutes there and we spent almost 3 hours! It is very comprehensive and the included audio guide is not to be missed. If this is an area of interest for you, I would recommend doing the 3rd Reich walk with Radius tours prior to your visit. The tour put the whole museum in context for us and it was great to learn more details about people and places that were mentioned during the tour.

Other cities have Doc Centers besides Munich and Nürnberg. There is one in Düsseldorf and Cologne too.

I went to Berchtesgaden while in Salzburg. I'm sure it's unique because along with the extensive museum exhibits (with full written explanations in English) you also visit the bunkers that Hitler was building. Berchtesgaden was the second HQ for Hitler, Berlin of course being 1st.

We visited the one in Nurnberg and found it captivating. The English audio guide was very good and the displays conveyed the story very well. It focuses on the rise of the Nazi party, how propaganda was used etc. I believe we spent about 3 hours inside, and then walked around the Rally Grounds. Very informative and thought-provoking.

I have visited the Munich installation , spending much of a full day there . One consideration for you is your time allotment . With two days in Nurnberg and three days in Munich , I would skip the one in Munich this time around , and devote your three days to Munich and all it has to offer . I've spent a month in Munich over the course of three visits , and can't wait to go back , it's one of my favorite places
