Name of hotel near Isartor in Munich?

Recently I saw a recommendation for a nice family-run hotel near Isartor that sounded great to me, but I cannot recall the name! Does anyone know?

I believe it was within the last 2-3 months, but I cannot find anything using the search function, nor by scrolling through recent discussions in this (Germany) forum. The OP was asking for a good hotel within walking distance from the train station and also with good restaurants nearby. In addition to the “usual suspects” (Hotel Blauer Bock, Hotel am Viktualienmarkt), someone suggested a place they like near Isartor. While I may not agree it is within walking distance to the Hauptbahnhof, I took a look at the website and liked the hotel, and would like to add it to my list for our next visit there. The one thing I remember is that they have a great breakfast.

Thanks for your help!

Maybe you are referring to Hotel Torbrau. We stayed in August of 2019 and yes they had an awesome breakfast.

Thank you both. I am sure it was not Isartor—-I would have remembered that. Hotel Torbrau looks promising. Did you mention it here recently, mrsdwright?

No have not but I have seen it mentioned many times. The hotel has great reviews on trip advisor and my parents stayed their on a pre tour prior to a Viking Cruise. Would not hesitate to stay there again!! The staff was awesome and location couldn’t be better.

Thank you. I am in the early planning stages for a trip to the Dolomites in September 2022, and would fly into Munich for that. I think I will include a couple of nights in Munich before taking the train south to The Dolomites, and would like to try someplace new. Previously stayed either near the Hauptbahnhof or near Marienplatz.

Hotel Torbrau looks very nice, and I like the location.

We stayed at Hotel Torbrau in 2019 and it worked out well. We were able to use the items in the minibar free including still water, juice, beer, wine, and Toblerone chocolate. Breakfast was included and was wonderful! We also had a lovely dinner at Restaurant Schapeau within the hotel. The hotel gave us a 10% off coupon to use. Hotel Torbrau is near the S Bahn which we took from the airport to the Isartor station. We exited to ground level at VictualMarket-Tal street and were within sight of Hotel Torbrau. We were able to buy S Bahn tickets from the hotel desk to go to the Hauptbahnhof. This hotel is an easy walk to Marienplatz also.

I stayed in Hotel Torbräu in December 2019. I mentioned it in a recent post, as did others. It may have been this post you were thinking of: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/tours/geneva-and-munich-info.

There is a restaurant run by the hotel as well as a great little eatery next to it: Die Weiberwirtschaft. There are little bakery type shops across the street and plenty of eateries along the street heading to Marienplatz. The Viktualienmarkt is an easy walk. On the opposite side of the Viktualienmarkt is Eataly. There is also a fairly direct route to the Hofbräuhaus.

I did find it a fairly easy (meaning not complicated and about 20/30 minutes) walk to the Hauptbahnhof. If I had luggage, I would investigate the route via S- or U-bahn to the train station.

We have stayed at the Hotel Torbrau twice. It is really nice and the staff was wonderful. I also highly recommend it.

Edited to add - If you are going to be in Munich during Oktoberfest, book your room as early as possible.

Thank you, Debbie. That is the thread I was searching for. It did not find. Glad to know I am not crazy.

We will be coming from the airport by S-Bahn and will likely use that to get to the Hauptbahnhof when we depart. While we have walked as far as a mile trailing our roller bags, we prefer not to—-especially where cobblestones are involved.

We will likely be arriving fairly late after flying from the US West Coast,, like after 8pm, so I would appreciate thoughts on a place for a light dinner. Last time we flew into Munich 2017) we stayed close to the train station at Schiller5 and had a lovely light meal of appetizers at Vinotek. I would go back there but it would be too long a walk after our full day of travel.

This will be very early September, so Oktoberfest prices and early booking will not be an issue. On another trip to Germany, previous to the 2017 trip mentioned above, we had an unavoidable night in Munich during Oktoberfest to meet our daughter who was flying in to join us in the Dolomites. I was able to get 2 rooms at Hotel am Viktualienmarkt, on a night after the departure of an RS tour group. I believe the rooms were available because they did not have online booking—- I had to call or email.
