Hi everyone! We are headed to Germany on the 6 th of Oct.
Munich is on our agenda .
It just occurred to me perhaps our Airbnb is near or even the red light or party district ( which I don’t think Airbnb would allow…but….)!
I had read about the areas before booking , but not about where families should avoid especially in the evenings. Our rental ( for 3 days is Stephansplatz Munich, Bayern ).
Can anyone tell me where the “Red light” / prostitution/ sex clubs areas are? Ughhh!
Doesn't Rick write about these areas in his book or does he avoid this part of Munich? You say ugghh, but Rick talks about them all the time. Sadly.
Look at hotels on booking dot com in the same neighborhood and read reviews if you want to know what is happening there. Why would Airbnb not allow this?
I meant they wouldn’t allow any rentals affiliated with them in the “ red “ districts.
Can anyone help us understand where those areas are? We are staying in Isarvorstadt very near to the Spitzwegbrunnen.
Since you know the area that you’re staying, use Google Earth to explore the area.
Airbnb does not care if a listing is in a less desirable area.
I did have to chuckle when reading this post. We stayed a block from the main train station. To get to the train station we walked past tattoo parlors, two 5 star hotels, and sex shops. Such is life in many big cities.
There is no red light district in Munich. Prostitution is forbidden in the inner city, brothels are located in the industrial estates on the outskirts of town, e.g. Euroindustriepark.
The link below provides information about the neighborhood of your Airbnb apartment.

Thx Paul …that’s all that I was hoping for in a response! Perfect! And ya cities have their “toy stores” I was more wanting to be informed of the areas involved with strip joints , partying and just generally higher activity of the sex trade.
It’s a global issue, however we are trying to avoid any proximity by becoming more informed via actual individual’s ( people) knowledge ( not general web knowledge) . Thx everyone! Appreciate it !
Hi dmcsween,
I think you will be okay in this area. I don't believe we have ever walked through the Stephansplatz area very much. However we enjoy dining at an Indian restaurant near there and have walked past St. Stephan's church many times. It is on the north end of Stephansplatz. The walk along that block on the side of the church has always been a peaceful one during the afternoon. I found a description online that refers to the platz as cobblestone paved and tree lined. I wanted to be sure it was where I thought it was so I "Googled" it and saw it on a map. It is. You might try that. It is conveniently near the Ubahn station at Sendlingertor. Sendlinger street itself is pedestrian only. It will take you to the Marienplatz. The Viktualienmarkt is also a few blocks away. If you download the MVV app it can help you with routes and public transportation. We are flying to Munich tomorrow. Now I plan to walk through Stephansplatz after we eat Indian food. Thanks for reminding me of it's existence. Over many trips to Munich I have not felt unsafe anywhere I've been.
Have a wonderful trip!

Agree with @travel4fun.
Use Google Maps and Google Earth to check-out your neighborhood.
Stephansplatz is a good location. The park is good too, and the walk along the river. I remember a couple clubs from when I walked through there in June, but nothing major. When I was younger, we'd go over by the Ostbahnhof for fun in the evenings. Or up by the University.
It's funny, because the only place I absolutely avoid near there is the Hofbrau Haus.

Is it a global issue? I have traveled extensively in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain, and Netherlands the last few years. The only obviously red light or adult entertainment area I passed through was in Amsterdam. From the RS maps I knew it was there, but crossing it was the shortest route to where I was headed.
Sounds good JkH !!
Thx
As a psychotherapist who has access to the mental health issues at home and globally, as well as certified Trauma Recovery Therapist Im aware that the sex trade is a global issue. At greater levels of impact since the accessibility of the web.
Having said that all, I want to have as much space and down time from my work as possible.
I appreciate everyone's suggestions! Germany is very foreign to me and Im not aware of specific areas within it.
dmc,
I often stay at Hotel Royal which is close to the main rail station, and there are some "colourful" businesses in that area, although I don't know if they fit the descriptions you've described. The hotel itself is wonderful and I've always enjoyed my stays there, especially the breakfasts! Hopefully things are the same now, as I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. I've never been bothered or had any problems when walking about in that area.
