Munich via Alps ending up in Frankfurt

Am leaving Munich on 11th December and have until the 16th December before leaving from Frankfurt to home. Would like to visit the Alps for a day (possibly even a day trip) before travelling to Frankfurt. Possibly via Nuremburg as one idea or via Offenburg but need advice on this please. Would like to spend at least one day in Frankfurt before flying out. Am thinking of doing all of this via train for the scenic views. Any ideas please would be most appreciative. Thanks.

Its a great time seeing Christmas Markets in Germany

When leaving Munich for the Alps go to Tegernsee 1 h south by train or car
They do have nice Christmas Markets in the Villages on the Lake in the mountains
You can go by boat from one Market to the other

Stay at the Lake Tegernsee for 1 or 2 nights and go to Nuremberg from there for another Christmas Atmosphere

From Munich, you could travel south to Innsbruck for Christmas markets with the spectacular alps as a backdrop. Or visit Mittenwald, a small town in a stunning setting. Or visit Salzburg, and the beautiful surrounding villages. Lots of options. I would determine if you want a bigger town or a small village. Do you want to spend a few days in one place, with possible day trips, or move from place to place?

Thanks for the replies/advice. Really appreciate it.
I am happy to move from place to place or even do some day trips. I only really have the 5 days though so I realise I am trying to cram it in. Does that boat run in December also? Thanks again.

If you go from Munich to Innsbruck you can then take the train to Feldkirch through the Austrian Alps for about 10 euro. Or you can go all the way to Zurich for a little more. A flight from Zurich to FRA will run about 120 euro and takes less than an hour.

Zurich's Christmas markets are spread out, and not especially fantastic, (they're not bad, I was there last year for 3 days) but the city's nice, and the train ride should be excellent for scenery in December.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen could be an option too.

Why Offenburg? Just dip into Schweitz?

We love both Hall in Tirol and Innbruck combo or the Berchtesgaden and Salzburg combo. We’ve done these for the Christmas Markets a number of times, as recently as this past December. For us, it’s a toss to which is our favorite place, between Berchtesgaden and Hall in Tirol for the Christmas markets.
