We would love help with trains to Verona from Munich in July. We've looked at Forum topics on trains in Italy. They are very comprehensive. Would really appreciate if someone could simplify for us. Which train is best. Which station? We usually rent a car but have read that it is better to use trains in Italy. We initially thought of the Bernina Express but that, alas, does not work since we will be coming from north west Germany, Lake Constance, and through Bavaria.
While in Verona, what do you recommend for 6 days, day trips and Verona itself? Three museums is probably the most we'd want to see. Is the wine region good to visit? We have yet to select a hotel or airbnb.
Thank you for any advice and help.
Hi Barbara. To get started with train info, go to bahn.de website, select English option, enter Munich to Verona Porta Nuova. You will see there are several direct trains per day. Have a great trip!
Barbara, the direct train from Munich to Verona runs several times a day. It departs either from Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) or Munich East (Ostbahnhof), so you can choose whichever station is quickest for you to reach. I also recommend the website bahn.de although this route is served by the Austrian ÖBB.
From Verona, I would visit Lake Garda, Padua, and of course Venice. I also find Chioggia fascinating (as a kid, I always called it mini Venice), and I also like Vicenza.
Maybe there is a possibility to attend an opera at the 'Arena di Verona': https://www.arena.it/en/arena-verona-opera-festival/events/
There's a lot to see in Verona including Juliet's balcony (Romeo and Juliet). I especially like to stroll through the streets in the evening. I'm sure there are other recommendations.
And the wine region around Verona is definitely worth a visit.
Thank you Bob for train info and Mignon for all the helpful info and suggestions! Very much appreciated.
