Plan to fly to Munich September 24, rent car and drive to Salzburg for conference through September 29. From there, Berchtesgaden, Füssen, Augsburg, Ulm, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Nuremberg, and back to Munich. Leaving October 8 or 9. Is this realistic?
So seven locations in 8-9 days? Physically possible, but sounds like an ordeal - not enough time to get out of the car and actually see anything.
I agree with the previous reply, that Itinerary is far too ambitious. You're going to be seeing much of Germany through a windshield.
This is a duplicate posting. You posted the same thing under General Europe.
That's what I was afraid of...after our 5 days in Saltzburg we do plan to go to Füssen for the castles and Rothenburg for the night watchman tour, suggested by friends. Will spend 2-3 days in Munich before flying back to the states. Are there any suggestions on this route?
A few more thoughts...
- You can visit the Castles as a day trip from Munich, either on your own or with a guided tour. There's no need to spend a night
- You might add one night in Salzburg after the conference as that will allow a visit to Berchtesgaden. There are numerous departures of the DB Bus from Salzburg, so you wouldn't need a car for that.
- After you finish in Salzburg, one possibility would be to travel from there to Rothenburg, and stay one night for the Watchman's tour. You could do that by train (several changes required) or by rental car. After that head straight for Munich and tour there and also use it as a base for day trips. That will minimize the number of times you have to change hotels.
Thank you for the advice, Ken. I think that's the way to go!
