Munich to Prague to meet the Rick Steve' Eastern Europe tour

We are flying into Munich and spending a week there before taking the train May 13th to Prague to hook-up with the Rick Steves' Eastern Europe 14 day tour. I am confused about which station to use for departure in Munich (staying at the Platzl Hotel in the city center) and which station in Prague for arrival (staying at the Ventana Hotel for one night, which is near the Metamorphis). Would appreciate any suggestions before I purchase tickets. Thank you!

I would assume you would use the main train station at each, Munchen HBF and Praha Hlavni Nadrazi (Praha hl.n.). You may have to take a taxi or metro to get to these train stations from your hotel. When I did this trip in reverse a few years ago there was also a bus option that was cheaper but still left and arrived at the main train stations and took about the same amount of time. I am not sure if this option is still available.

You can use this website to look for trains.

Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. You can just enter the plain city names, and then the resulting schedules will recommend the station. Most trains start or end at Munich's main station (Hauptbahnhof = Hbf) and Prague's main station (hl.n.) and this is the case for the direct train departing at 9:00 a.m. and arriving at 14:41. This one makes only a few stops and none at other stations in the same cities. Some schedules will be all or partly by bus and then reflect the bus stop.

There are four direct ALEX trains from Munich to Praha, leaving Munich at 4:55, 9:01, 12:44, and 17:02. Most of them are hidden by the DB website, which brings up a DB bus connection instead. You can find that trains on the web site of the Czech Rail (https://old.cd.cz/spojeni/Route.aspx) or on the website of the operator (http://www.laenderbahn.com/alex/fahrplan/regelfahrplan/ ) - look up "Alex Nord / München - Regensburg - Schwandorf - Praha" and download the PDF. You can buy a "Prag Spezial" ticket (€36) aboard the ALEX train in the board bistro.
